FAQ
- Are the dorms air-conditioned?
Residence halls are not air-conditioned.
- Is there wireless connection for the Internet?
There is no wireless connection on campus.
- How do we get to campus from the airport? Do you provide a shuttle?
CCI does not provide shuttle service from the airport to the campus; however, you may click here for more information. During the competition, the University will provide a free on-campus bus service for all participants.
- Where is team registration?
Team registration will take place at Ritchie Coliseum.
- If our team is delayed and does not arrive on campus until after registration closes, how do we get to our assigned residence hall?
Please call the CCI office at 856-256-2797, on or before May 23 if you know prior to leaving that you will not arrive until after registration closes. If you are delayed en-route, please call 301-314-OMER (6637) for special instructions. This line will be answered 24-hours starting noon, Friday, May 30.
- Are parents permitted to stay with the team in the dorms?
Everyone is permitted to stay with the team in the dorms. Anyone wishing to do so should be added to the Team Housing Reservation Form.
- Can parents staying off-campus eat in the same dining hall as the team?
Anyone purchasing meals-only packages on the same housing reservation with the team will be assigned to the same dining hall as the team.
- Is there a penalty for canceling our housing reservation?
You may cancel your reservation without penalty until Thursday, May 1, 2008.
- Can we make changes to our housing reservations if we reserve our space now?
Teams can modify and/or cancel housing reservations until Thursday, May 1, 2008.
- Are suite-style or family suites available?
Most rooms are double-occupancy with twin beds; a few single, triple and quad rooms are also in the inventory. Some rollaway beds will be used to triple-up team members.
- Can we get a private bathroom?
Most of the lodging will be provided in traditional-style buildings, where residence hall rooms open onto a central corridor and where restrooms, shower facilities and a lounge are located and shared by guests. Bathrooms will be designated male or female.
- Do we need to bring linens?
Each person will be provided towels, pillow and case, bed linens, and a blanket or bedspread.
- Are laundry facilities available?
Laundry facilities are in the building or in the community in which the hall is located.
- Will we receive our housing assignments before arriving on campus?
Your team will receive its dorm assignment upon arriving at registration. Please bring a list to registration designating room assignments and roommate requests.
- Can anyone enter the residence halls?
Residence hall entrance doors are locked 24 hours a day. Participants must use an access card to open the main entrance door and to call the elevator (if the building has one). A key is required to unlock bedroom doors. A staff member will be on duty in the residence halls each night to help with concerns and emergencies which may arise.
- If our team is staying on campus, do we still pay the registration or facilities fee?
No, if you are staying on campus, the facilities fee is already included in the housing cost.
- Our team would like to stay in a hotel. Will you help us with those arrangements?
We do not arrange for off-campus housing. Please click here for a list of hotels.
- Can teams staying off campus use the recreational facilities?
Yes, use of the recreational facilities is included in your registration fee. You will want to take advantage of various recreational opportunities offered on campus, which include swimming, racquetball, volleyball, and basketball.
- Who can attend the competition and ceremonies on campus and how much are the tickets?
Everyone is welcome to attend, but will require a ticket to attend the Opening Ceremonies on Saturday night and the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday night. If you are staying on campus with the team, your tickets will be included in the team's registration packet. If you are not staying on campus, you may pick up your ticket on the day of the event at the Odyssey Information Booth located at Stamp Union. There is no charge for the tickets.
- Do drivers need a parking permit? Where do we pick them up?
Parking lots that are not gated or otherwise noted as Odyssey-restricted will be free of charge. However, you need to display the special Odyssey parking permit that you will receive at registration. This permit also allows parking at any meter in the city of College Park. The permit is NOT valid in campus pay lots.
- When can we check on our props? If we are driving our props to campus, where do we deliver them?
Cartons correctly sized and marked will be delivered directly to a storage room at the competition site and available for inspection after 2:00 PM on Friday, May 30. Shipping and receiving information will be available when you arrive at registration. Coaches may inquire there for information concerning your props. If you are driving your props to campus, you should deliver them directly to the storage room for the competition site. Please inquire at registration.

- When will the competition schedule be available?
The tentative competition schedule will be available on Thursday, May 8th, at 5 PM until Saturday, May 10th, midnight. The final competition schedule will be posted on Monday, May 12th.
- How do I contact my child once the team arrives on campus?
In the event it is necessary to contact a participant residing on campus, parents and other family members can locate participants by calling 301-314-OMER (6637). This line will be answered 24 hours a day beginning noon, Friday, May 30. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, always call University Police at 301-405-3333.
- Will any of the events be broadcast online?
Opening Ceremonies, the Graduation Ceremony and the Awards Ceremony will be broadcast as a live web cast during the ceremony as it occurs.
- How soon will I be able to view my child's picture online?
Creative Competitions, Inc. does not post individual team photos online. However, if Premier Portraits Studio photographed your child's team, please contact them directly.

- Who is eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony?
If you are missing your graduation ceremony because you are attending the Odyssey of the Mind 2008 World Finals, you are invited to participate in the graduation ceremony. Due to time and space restrictions, we cannot invite all students to participate. Graduates are encouraged to wear caps and gowns for this ceremony.
- When will we see the team's scores on the website?
The team's scores will be available on the website shortly after the Awards Ceremony ends.
- Is there a health center on campus in the event of an emergency?
The University Health Center is located across from the Stamp Student Union. University Policy will rout major emergency situations to one of the local hospitals.
- Where can I find OMER'S News?
The printed version of OMER'S News will be available daily throughout the campus. It will also be posted daily online.
